4/13/10 – IIA Sunrise Education
Institute of Internal Auditors, Sunrise Education Series
April 13, 2010, Toronto, Ontario, 8:30-10:00am
Edward Nagel will be co-presenting with lawyer David Lipkus of Toronto law firm Kestenberg Siegal Lipkus LLP on the following topic:
“How to Catch Fraud: More likely Than Not.â€
The high profile frauds of the past decade have given rise to significant changes in terms of the expectations that auditors must consider fraud as part of their audit; this includes recent guidance issued by the IIA. Knowing how fraud is perpetrated and what are the possible indicators or ‘red flags’, will increase the likelihood of fraud detection by auditors and potentially mitigate damage to the organization—be it financial, reputational or otherwise. Citing real-life cases, this session will provide first-hand experience from various investigations conducted and the key issues that were considered involving frauds perpetrated across the different accounting cycles. It will also cover the legal issues and remedies available to companies to recover misappropriated funds. Finally, it will address the practical strategies to mitigate the cost of investigations, including leveraging internal audit resources and current trends in risk management.
